Operation Badr was the dramatic opening blow of Egypt’s 6 October 1973 offensive across the Suez Canal. Massed artillery, assault boats, engineers, infantry, anti-tank teams, and air-defense units worked in a carefully rehearsed sequence to overwhelm Israeli assumptions about the canal front. Egypt transformed the water obstacle into an avenue of attack, quickly isolating the Bar-Lev Line and altering the psychological balance of the Yom Kippur War.
